How it all began

Hi, I am Elke I Welcome you to my strange new world where anything is possible.

Until 5 years ago I was a teacher of High School Students in Port Hedland Western Australia. Then my life changed quite dramatically as I retired. At that time I had this vision of planting my garden with vegetables and roses as well as many other plants, read books cook lovely lunches for my kids and grand-kids and grow peacefully older with my husband Mark. I must say that I lived happily like this for the next 5 years. Then something happened to both Mark and me. We usually spent much time in our backyard watching and listening to the plethora of birds in the orchard we had planted years ago. Both of us realised at about the same time that we had just started our eightieth year and if we drifted along s life s path much longer like this there might be no more adventures or excitement left in our life. We both felt that we were no longer living an active adventurous life. Time was running out. That was when we made the decision to sort out our life. We suddenly realised that we were just the guardians of a huge collection of non essentials.Seven months later all was sold or donated .Everything we had owned was gone. Actually we did not own these things the things owned us. Those seven months were cathartic to say the least. he last part of our great sale and give away was our house. Now we are free to begin our new adventure and learning curve. We have finally left the waiting room.We will be traveling light with on board luggage only.Just now we are couch surfing like two fossilized teenagers with a dog, a cat With a backpack and a suitcase each.
